Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Nice character study, but nothing more...

Star Trek: Reflections: Spock - David Tipton, Federica Manfredi, David Messina

The problem with this is I expect a little something more from IDW.  I expect this to go somewhere, to show something.   Other than showing bits of Spock's past - including shedding some light on the tumultuous relationship between Spock and Sarek - this doesn't do much.

The bookends of Spock teaching on Romulus tries to tie it together and make it more meaningful, and it's a valiant effort.   But it feels like little scenes thrown together with no common theme.   It doesn't help that part of this deals with Kirk's death after he'd lived in the Nexus so long, but not all of the scenes deal with anything remotely to do with Kirk.   Not in theme, a lot of them don't have Kirk in them, and I'm left a bit adrift.

It gets more complicated.   Kirk's death does bookend this whole arc, and then Spock tells Picard to remember these days, for once they're gone...   Ah, there's the theme!   Until Spock returns to Romulus, leaving us afloat, not with that nice, simple ending that would have made this feel so much more meaningful.

It's an odd way to end an odd volume, and all I can say is if you want to learn more about Spock, want to see some questions answered, read this, but otherwise stay away.

PS - T'Pring is still a bitch.
