I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
So first of all, this skips over issues like three and ten. For, like, no apparent reason - and it's even odder because they talk about the how the mini-series came about, why and how it was expanded, but they don't give us issue three of a four issue mini-series. Bizarre. Even more bizarre are that I know character named were changed due to trademark reasons - like Trailbreaker changing his name to Trailcutter in IDW - and this would be understandable. I'd have certainly accepted that as a valid reason for not reprinting the comic, and would have mentioned that they gave an explanation.
Instead, as a reader, I'm left to marvel at the incompleteness and wonder why it's so incomplete. It bothered me enough to knock down one star. I am fond of transparency, and this was anything but.
I knocked down one star because members was spelled mesbers in the last issue - and it was a systematic problem. I don't know why, but a lot of shit was misspelled. A lot.
One half star because cassette decks and guns jumped around. Not in robot mode. In alt mode.
Two and a half stars, because this was cheesy fun - but fun. I really did like seeing how the Autobots and Decepticons came to be.
Plus, mmm, Dinobots. And they're not stupid in this era/when they were first created. Which is interesting. And makes me sad about my reaction to this - because I tend to find them hotter when they're violent and stupid.
