Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Even cuter than expected!

Imagine Agents - Brian Joines

I wish I could give this more than five stars.   I hated closing each issue to have to open a new one, because I didn't like being without it for those couple of seconds.   My goal for the last half of this month is to get down to fifty PDFs, and since I downloaded these - legally - from my Humble Bundle library as four issues each from the BOOM! Studios bundle currently on sale, that's four down in my PDFs to be read file.

In this case, I loved the art, but didn't think it was as spectacular as even the art in Hit.   However, the story and the humor and warmth and hope in this made up for any lack in the art.   (And it's hard to say that when everything I've read lately, at least as far as graphic novels have gone, has been so spectacular.   My bar has been raised so high.   This art looks a bit more typical and I've been bombarded by continually original art as of late.)

It's an adult take on imaginary friends, too.   It gets a little dark at some points, enough so that I wouldn't pass this to a child first thing, but there's nothing that's really inappropriate either.   No sex, no swearing, not too much violence.  It felt like it was aimed at adults, though, especially with a bit of science talk thrown in here and there.

This does spectacularly with a relatively small cast, and seems to relish on focusing on the main characters, instead of falling into the trap of spreading the love around so much that no one character gets enough attention.   (As much as I love some big team graphic novels - like X-Men and Avengers - those ones could feel like this!)

Highly recommended, if only because I haven't read anything quite like this before.
