I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I kept wanting to read something else, but the story wasn't either fantastic, nor bad enough for me to quit this book. And I kept going on because the art was fantastic.
Laney Griffin will do anything to save his son, Jaren, including trying to track down a killer for a bounty. Except what he finds isn't a man, but rather a cursed man. It gets a little more complicated: Laney had been married to the Sherif's sister, Evelyn. Nora is still carrying a grudge, and since Evelyn's body was never found, she suspects that Laney had something to do with her disappearance and murder.
And a lot of these details and real human interactions were intriguing, but again, the story itself? It didn't feel like it was that scary, nor that it added anything new or original to the lore.
That being said, the art? It gets even more gorgeous when it goes to a mostly black and white color scheme, with splashes of bright color. I'd suggest reading this just for the art alone, in fact.
I averaged out the writing and art and decided on three stars.
