Star Trek Spotlight Volume 1 Review

Star Trek: Alien Spotlight - Andrew Steven Harris, James Patrick, John Byrne

Four stars because this was really quite an excellent collection.   Even thought it was composed of six separate stories with different writers (six in total, although one is a couple of writers who wrote two of the one-shots), the quality was all fairly equal.   They were thoughtful, true to Star Trek (whether it be TOS, TNG, or Voyager - and there was a bit of all of those thrown in), and thought-provoking.   Although the Borg story may be the jewel of this collection; the scope of that story left me breathless.   Plus, y'know, the first time I've read Borg in how long?

The Borg are kinda hot.

Or cute.  Or whatever.

Why did I take one star off then?   The art.   Some of it was incredible.   The Gorn story was gorgeously illustrated, as was the Orion story and the Borg.   But as for the Romulans?   I'm just not crazy about John Byrne's art.   The Andorian story was a bit spotty as far as the art went, as well, and I just really didn't like the artist chosen for the Vulcan story at all.   (That one had the weakest art by far in my opinion, which was a shame, because the story was decent.)

Anyway, I'd give it a shot, especially if you're a Trek fan!
