Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Supernatural's order of the day: misogyny! (Also, K-9 Transformer Character Challenge)

Supernatural: The Dogs of Edinburgh - Brian Wood, Dustin Nguyen

K-9's alt mode is a German Shepard.    This has 'dogs' in the title, and I picked it up for about half-price, and I really wanted to read it.

There are also minimal amounts of demonic dogs in this book.   Which was kinda the highlight.   It was fun, it was quick, but it lacked the charm of Supernatural - the humor that, quite frankly, masks how horribly misogynistic it is.   It was far more noticeable in this graphic novel.

I have a lot of issues with this book.   The art isn't appropriate for a Supernatural comic in my opinion, as it's stylized enough that it's hard to tell Sam is Sam at some points. The darkness matches the show, but the colors can be really off - to the point that Sam looks sickly at some points, when he's clearly not supposed to be.

But what really sticks in my craw is this just another reason to dig up one of Sam's exes, force her to sacrifice and make amends for something that isn't her fault, and then throw her under the bus when the story is done with her.

Um, no.   Women aren't mean to be used, and tossed aside when they're no longer of use, and it's pretty obvious she's just there for just that reason.   Ugh, Supernatural.   Will you ever have a non-misogynistic story?

Two stars for being readable, but nothing special, and for the messages this sends which I do not want.
