I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I'm up, I'm down, I don't know where the fuck I'm going next. Because James Roberts? Loves toying with my emotions. I feel like this is a hobby of his, and by that I mean 'toying with people's emotions in general'. Because, he packs a punch.
Also... do you know that favorite series of yours? The one you wish you could squeal about with friends? The one that no one takes seriously because it's a Transformers comic, and for some reason, even the hardcore Transformers fans you know in real life don't read it? Let me tell you how much this frustrates me. I really, really want to get all poetic about how brilliant Roberts is, from his playful use of language - Rigor Morphis is still one of my favorite play on words ever, to his elaborate plots that keep you guessing, to his nuanced characters. I really wish I knew someone else who read this, and was like, 'I totally understand how you feel because he's amazing!' This is blameless frustration, as I don't expect anyone else to read this unless it pleases them to do so, but it's still there.
What frustrates me, though, is that because reading this is based on knowing/liking the Transformers world/concept/characters, it's going to fly under the radar of the literate people who would truly enjoy the tongue-in-cheek humor, the sly little hints of the literary that are dropped in, and it's a damn shame. If they don't want to read it, I can't, I wouldn't, force them to, but I do hope that Roberts writes something original for them eventually. (Kinda. I don't, really, because if he writes only Transformers stuff that's more Transformers stuff for me to read. I'm selfish when it comes to this, so... I wish he would, but I kinda hope he doesn't, too.)
This is almost all build up for Dark Cybertron, and even the last issue - 22 - which is a side story? I have the feeling that this is going to come into play during this arc. I'm so very excited for this, as well.
Dark Prelude, and then Dark Cybertron. Also, I read this a long time ago and just reread it for Dark Cybertron. It's all in comic format, not as a graphic novel.
