I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
This was just short, and while I'm not super into contemporary romances, it was decently written. I can very easily see her being a strong seller: the chemistry between the characters worked out, she had a good backstory for them, and some nice angst to work through.
There were a couple sex scenes, but they didn't overtake the plot. The sex was, again, well written and would probably do a lot more for someone into this particular genre, or into the whole sex thing. I just had this fifty percent finished, and there's only so much fuckery I can take with my TF book before I need a break, so... finishing this.
I'm giving it a two and a half star rating. It just didn't really click with me, and while I don't think the story, or the characters, or the plot were at fault, something didn't work. Maybe, honestly, it was me - maybe I'm just in a shitty mood because my highly anticipated book is sucking enormous metal balls - but I feel like a truly good book would lift me out of that fuckery.
However, there was still a general feeling of 'shrug, okay, that's done. It was done competently, but didn't really make me feel anything, so... I kinda wanna ask what the point was.' I can't pinpoint why I felt that, but I felt it nonetheless. So, yeah, she's getting a much higher rating than I normally would give a book that made me so apathetic about it, because of the fact that she can string together coherent sentences, because she has the basics of characters down. Everything else was taken off because I just didn't feel it.
Would I suggest this book or author? Honestly, yes. I would if you're already into the contemporary romance genre. I would suggest seeing if this sort is still free on Amazon, and seeing if you like it. If you do, then I'd move onto more of Dahl's books. You may not be going through book slump/disappointment that's making you in a shitty mood, and more importantly - you may very well connect to these characters, and this story more than I do. Dahl isn't bad, and may not be at fault this time around; I haven't looked around to see how well reviewed/loved she is in the romance community, so this is pretty much all I have to go on right here. This short.
