I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
The main character is a reanimated corpse who eats brains and is in love with a half-human, half-rat hybrid who dies if she orgasms.
Sometimes, just sometimes, it's nice to know that someone is a little weirder than you, especially when it comes to the whole love life thing. Especially if you're, well, like me. Plus, I need something with lush and lyrical prose after the crap fest that was the Robocop novelization.
If you haven't read Richard Calder... well, I can't say he's for everyone. He writes some of the quirkiest stories out there, and they're god... just heartbreaking and beautiful and full of everything that reminds me why I love reading.
He also has love connections that are odd, and make my technosexuality look normal in comparison. I never got why I got so into his pairings, but it makes sense to me now. Relatively, they normalize my own desire, and I also root for these couples because I know what it's like to be in the fringe, and I've known since before I came to grips with what I am.
It's actually influenced a lot of what I like. Neuromancer. All of Richard Calder. A lot of cyberpunk.
I have, however, misplaced, or most likely given away my copy of the Dead Girls, Dead Boys, and Dead Things trilogy :( I am devastated. I shall have to rectify this situation, as soon as possible!
