I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Better than the first go, and I managed to make it through this one in less than 24 hours. Still not the hugest Harry Potter or Rowling fan, though. On the other hand, if Cory hadn't set up the group read, I wouldn't have given these another chance.
I'm still on the fence. I don't think there's anything staggeringly original about Harry Potter. The Phoenix was pretty much what I expected a Phoenix to be. There was a little more mystery, a little more intrigue, in this book, but again, nothing that blew me away.
It's simply not close to the best fantasy I've read, even in the young adult/teen section. I'll keep going, especially since I've heard that Rowling and this series seem to hit their stride in book four. And while I may not sound greatly pleased, I'm not in some ways, and am in others. I'm certainly thrilled this isn't as painful to read as the times I've tried before!
