I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
And I love it all: Danny is Casey's EMT truck, and they're going to go back in time and stop bad, bad things from happening and everyone from getting turned into hamburgers. I'm not even sure what's going on with Captain Trainor: he's going to rejoin the Negative Spirit, to stop bad, bad things from happening.
I'm so confused.
I also feel like I'd get this more if I knew the original Doom Patrol better. Neither my confusion, nor the weirdness, hinder this in any way: many of these characters choose to become heroes, and their journey is a lot of fun. (This is also an important distinction; reading about the original Doom Patrol, it seems like they had less choices and saw themselves more as victims. And while this series doesn't shy away from things like that, in that Robot Man clearly didn't make this choice, and Casey is a bit salty about how Danny brought her to life, there isn't such a feeling that they're victims. Or even when they started out without being able to make a choice, it feels like they more quickly make choices and accept them. I could be proven wrong, but that's how it feels to me so far.)
This is a little bit of a slow burn, but I also feel like this might be settling us into how bizarre and trippy this is going to be until it goes full out crazytown bananapants on us.
I'm glad issue five will be out soon!
