I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Just as a full disclaimer: I read this before it came out as a kind of beta reader. I'm not sure how much I helped but I hope I did. (My mom wants a picture of me getting a shout out in the book. She's thrilled, and I love this book, and this cover. The reference to this was me saying I had originally wanted to try a version of this cover for fun; I never got around to it, but I also got an early peek at the cover and absolutely fell in love.)
I also told Michelle that if she wanted to, she could save the shipping from the UK to the US and put that money to getting word out about this book. I was more than happy to buy it, and didn't want her to feel that I had offered to look over her book for a freebie, or that she was obliged. She said she liked to do this, and I had to admit I'd be happy to get a signed copy of this book! I took this picture on my computer because I was too lazy to go upstairs and get my phone which is why the writing looks so crooked; I had to hold the book up in front of the camera and make sure I got it all. I take less crooked pictures on the phone, but I should have: I'm going to have to go up now and oblige my mom!
Anyway, I'm going to take a brief break from Readercon reading. I want to at least start this tonight. I'm feeling the books for the guests of honor pile up. (And I need to read some Gillian Daniels; she may have been my favorite Readercon author last year just for how excited she got about Rocket and Groot!)
And by the way: I know Michelle never expects people to reread her books, or even read them, when she gives them away. She's pretty fantastic, and I absolutely love her sci-fi writing. (I've shied away from romance and erotica lately, thus my explanation for not having read her BDSM books.) I don't feel obliged to read, or to review, or to give a high star rating. I've read this book, though, I enjoyed it the first time around - and see no reason a second time would change that - and I'd like to raise some awareness of this book. In addition, I need something AI related right now. That always makes me feel better. Better than hyperventilating about the redonkulous pile of comics that has been piling up for, what, three weeks now? Ugh. Twitch.
