Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Bat-Verse meets it's version of Bond

Grayson, Vol. 1: Agents of Spyral - Mikel Janin, Tim Seeley

This came recommended, and I remember it being a sort of mashup of Bat-verse stuff and spy stuff.   The storylines crossover incredibly well: it’s fun, slick, and it manages to have a sense of nostalgia despite the fact that it’s new.

Dick Grayson is dead - or so the world believes.   Since he’s been unmasked, he allows the world to believe he’s dead.   Instead of lounging around, he allows Helena Bertinelli to bring him into Spyral.   Spyral is a spy agency, that not only goes after missing high tech bioweapons, but also looks into the secret identities of every superhero on Earth.

Meanwhile, Grayson is spying on Spyral itself.

Most of these issues follow Helena and Dick as they go on their missions, and then the spying on Spyral is kept as sort of a subplot despite this being the point of the whole series.   I’m enjoying it, but not so much that I’d continue to read this indefinitely.  I kept hoping for more resolution to the larger story arc, and never really felt I got any answers in this volume.   I’m kind of glad it looks like there are only two volumes...
