I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
This is my favorite Ghost Rider: Robbie Reyes interests me the most due to his personal life, the way he cares for his brother, Gabe, and the fact that I quite frankly find his Charger hotter than the bikes. Quite frankly, I think it's the size issue. Bigger car, more metal, more of a turn on for me.
I also find his deal with Eli more fascinating than the usual Ghost Rider origins: it's not completely different, but it is different enough to make it feel original and unique. I find the tie that Eli has to Robbie more interesting.
Unfortunately, this was a lot of setup between Wolverine and The Hulk, and had too little Ghost Rider. (I especially miss how much time he spends with Gabe, theoretically off panel right now. The relationship he had with Gabe - loving and caring, even if he got frustrated on occasion because he's young and Gabe needs so much care - was competing, made him more sympathetic to the reader and to the other people he interacted with, and it was lovely to see a Rider with this kind of soft side.
It feels like that's not a priority anymore, and that's a shame. Also, slightly out of character: Robbie's reason d'être is taking care of Gabe. It's not that he doesn't, it just that it feels off for it not to be the main focus in this series.
However, I'm willing to give this a little more time. The next issue, in particular, looks interesting. Wolverine and the Hulk versus a monster that absorbs their power versus the Rider. Oh, yeah!
I just hope this series pulls it all together in the next issue or so...
