I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
And I love it! Brutal and violent, it shows all the horrors that Frank Castle is fighting. He most often goes up against the more common criminals of the Marvel universe, and yes many have money that can buy protection that is unbelievably slick. But he goes up against those who aren't armed with magic or superpowers but rather greed or hatred fueling them.
And it works: seeing Doom get punched out is different than seeing a mafia boss getting punched out. There's something satisfying, in a completely different way, about seeing the evil that reflects our world so well getting gunned down by Castle. Not that seeing Doom getting his ass handed to him isn't satisfying; it is.
But I'm not afraid of him being out in the world, at least not yet, and because I know there aren't leaders out there who combine magic and science to try and force the world to bow to his whim, well, there's something that feels more real, more concrete, to the Punisher scenarios.
Satisfying in a different but equally pleasing way. Castle is trying to track down The Face - and so is the suspended cop who's partner was killed. This is looking to be one kick-ass showdown, and I want to see it. Yes, now, please.
Ah, well, I can wait until this story plays out...
