I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I suspect that Kelly is constrained in some ways; the character has changed pretty drastically since he started writing Deadpool and that works in his favor. There's no waffling, no fear of 'oooh, gay cooties,' no question about how much social commentary there should be.
Kelly, I suspect, has evolved as a writer as well to be able to pull this off as well as he does. It's genuinely funny, and seems effortlessly so, especially as when compared to Kelly's early writing. Deadpool's redemptive arc continues as well: he's trying to be better because Spider-Man's been guiding him along that path, and yet he's been told Peter Parker was evil and hired to kill Parker.
When he realizes that Parker was innocent, he has to try and save the dead Parker. And make amends.
And Shiklah, Deadpool's wife, mentions Wade's 'bro-crush' on Spider-Man so it counts as LGBTQI+ since Wade is pansexual!
