I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
A Deadpool story with a suicidal character that isn’t offensive in all the ways you think it would be? Color me shocked. I was actually on the verge of breaking down and sobbing when I finished this: Deadpool finds a woman about to jump off the Avengers building, and starts out suggesting that she jump off Parker’s building. Yeah, he starts out joking, but it’s because he doesn’t have anything profound to say, like the other Avengers would.
He basically tells her you’re stuck with me.
He takes her out, but on missions of vengeance against truly horrible people, and texts friends instead of answering her.
I was rolling my eyes until I got to the end and found out who he was texting. He tells her he’s smart enough to know he’s too dumb to help her. He jerks his thumb at the emergency room, and says that they can.
And I’m tearing up again. There’s a letter in the back explaining why Duggan wrote this story and with the number to the suicide hotline. It’s especially moving to me that Deadpool goes so out of his way to help this girl if you remember my rants about how Cap jokes that he sees a barber, but, yeah a therapist could work when he seems to be telling Deadpool to run to a therapist. What a let down!
Or the way I railed about how no one took his mental health issues seriously and how they looked down on him for them. Yeah, this story touched me deeply for multiple reasons.
