I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I've been thinking about ARCs. I have some that I should have read a while ago and I got overwhelmed. I have some that are newer. But the Crossroads ARC scandal has got me thinking: what can I do? I mean, saying this is awful is something that makes me proud: this community is not putting up with this attitude or entitlement silently.
But is there something I could do other than speak? Is there something I could do that would benefit authors?
Yes, I can. I can start cracking on those ARCs. I'm going to go through some books I picked up at Readercon - books that publishers donated, or ARCs they sent specifically - and start on the ones I'm most interested in first. Then I'll go to older ARCs.
I'm not going to delude myself into thinking this will become a thing, but if anyone wants to join me, I'd love to hear from you guys. I know some of you already do this, and that's fantastic. For those who don't run a blog outside of BL, or who have fallen behind, I'd love to hear from you guys if you're going to march ahead.
First up: reading that book I've been working on for feedback - yesterday sucked and it didn't get done, and then the ARCs. I'm going to put off my comics for at least a week. And that might not sound like a huge sacrifice, but they are my reason d'être lately, so it is. You're welcome, authors. I know you don't feel entitled to this, but I also want to show my appreciation, so that welcome isn't nearly as sarcastic as someone might think. (Jeez, it reads that way to me. I might know myself too well...)
