I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

This continues to be one of the most charming comic series I've ever read...

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (2015-) #9 - Natacha Bustos, Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder, Amy Reeder

Fun, funny, with a main character who is self-aware and despite her young age has agency.   When her parents and teachers try to stop her, she continues to try to find a way to stop Terrigenesis.   (Her parents and teachers don't realize what she's doing, and I suppose she doesn't tell them because she knows it wouldn't stop.)

Captain - or Kid - Kree is a nice, new character.   Geeky and picked on, he decides to bring an Inhuman in to stand trial, and he deduces that Moon Girl will be the easiest human to get.   Little does he realize what she can do, or what Devil Dinosaur can do, and he finds himself with a much bigger fight on his hands than he expected.

Which is when Ms. Marvel comes in to tell them to knock it off because they're wrecking the joint.   So far, there's very little Ms. Marvel although it seems that she'll feature in next issue.   That being said, I really love that this focuses on Kid Kree and Moon Girl: they're more alike than they realize, and they're both ostracized for being too smart for their own good.   They have a lot of parallel events in their lives and some obvious differences.   It makes it all that much more delicious when they fight, and end up helping each other at the end.

It also makes Kid Kree a lot more sympathetic than a simple hero meant to be trashed in a fight and then jailed.   He's got a lot of the same basic problems as Moon Girl does - making their parents take them seriously, and getting some damn respect from someone, anyone - and so I feel bad for him even when I'm rooting for Moon Girl.   (Kid Kree is misguided, not truly evil, and I don't know him as much since he hasn't been in this comic for more than a couple issues.   That's why I foot for Lunella and not Kid Kree.)

I hope this continues for a while longer, or that Kid Kree becomes a regular.  He's been so much fun, especially when he needles Lunella at school.    Also, I would totally hand this comic to children.   It's nice to see a smart kid who's self-aware and helps herself instead of whining all the time.   (She does whine a little, but not that much given everything she has to deal with, so I ended up loving her more than most characters who are children.)

I'm eagerly looking forward to more of this series.
