I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Funny, meta, and with a good reason - or at least one that's in character for both Gambit and Deadpool - to get the two main characters together.
It's a little different than the Duggan series, and a little more old school: Deadpool's morals are looser, and he's got less of a tether to reality. It makes me wonder if this takes place before he found out about Ellie, to be honest. She tends to be the thing that keeps him honest and good and saner more than anything else. Not because he puts pressure on her to be those things, but because he more desperately wants to be better for her.
So a lot of this seemed weird, not just because of that, but also because Daredevil and Spider-Man seemed out of character. The whole day off antiquing?
It felt more like a parody than anything else at times. Like Marvel was parodying itself. And in the end, I loved this, a lot, but I wasn't expecting this to be quite so irreverent in quite this way. Deadpool is, of course, but usually it's more startling because everything around him is played straight.
I liked it more once I had come to this conclusion, but still not one of my all-time favorite, five star books. I will continue, however. I mean, if I stuck with Sins of the Wreckers this long...
