I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I felt sick reading this. It's for my single-issue bingo, since I need a comic I heard someone arguing about, and not only have I heard this, I've argued about it myself. I didn't want to give money to Marvel for this atrocity, so I read the Free Comic Book Day issue, which was an introduction to both this and Dead No More, the Amazing Spider-Man storyline. (And the Spider-Man story wasn't anything new; bringing characters back from the dead? Seen it. In multiple Marvel comics. A hell-god? Seen it. In multiple Marvel comics. Neither the specifics of that, nor the art in that, saved this issue.)
I can see where Spencer might be going a way I think he's not, but at this point, I don't trust that. I certainly don't trust it enough to like this. I hate that I side-eye Cap when I read stories about him now, but I do.
I'm going to read some of Remender's Cap run, because I need something recommended by the comic store staff, and I normally don't get recommendations. I got that one because I overheard him recommending to someone else during a buy two, get the third free sale. (This counted on sales book. I loved the Cap storyline so much I bought the rest as e-books when they went on sale soon after I read the first couple graphic novels.) But I feel like I might feel sick reading that, too. It's a shame that this one event can color the history of a beloved character, but I can't really ignore what's been done to him. I may try to pretend this didn't happen, but we'll see.
For now, nope, this didn't encourage me to buy, or invest my time, in either of these series.
