I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
So, wait, what? The original singer for a band is kicked out, Dinah comes on board, the band's name is changed to Black Canary... and no one guesses Dinah is Black Canary?
Oh, DC, I wanted to like this. I loved the illustrations, and you've been doing well with female characters, from old school Wonder Woman to the newer Batgirl that I'd heard so much about lately. (And finally read, and loved.)
This however had so much fuckery. I did like some of the things, like Dinah and her band having some mystery and conflict between them. I liked the way they had to band together and protect themselves and each other.
But I was so, so confused I can't see myself investing in the rest of this series. I have no clue if issue one, or three and on will have more head-scratching plot holes like this. The funny thing is that I know it's not retconned so that Black Canary doesn't exist, because Dinah was Black Canary before the band started. (Her music career started in Batgirl.)
So I have just enough information to make sense - and DC refuses to give me enough information to know if issue one is full of this kind of confusion or not. Without that, I'm unwilling to continue. I'd have to actually invest financially to catch up (and keep up) and I'd need more of a guarantee that things will eventually make sense. This issue does not make me feel assured that anything will be resolved at the end.
