I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Although I apparently read this pre-BL. This is cute, and charming, and while, yes, there are moments where I just hate humanity in general, they redeem themselves in the end. I also managed to forget just how trippy this book was. And hoo-boy, does it get weird in the end. It manages to do so in a way that makes me think it's cheesy and even a little bit stupid - but also keeps up that quality that simply charms the metaphorical pants off me.
This isn't the movie, although I see the slight connections. I see why studio bought the name and rights to the movie version, and I really, really love that movie. I just love the book. (I'd argue that the movie is slightly superior, bringing less of a new-age ending, and giving it more of a historical movie. That being said, the book is truly lovely, even if different, and I enjoy it almost as much as the movie.)
It's a quick read, too. Not only because its short, but because the writing is clear and crisp, and just propels you forward. And for those with kids, I don't normally read kid friendly books - but this is a fantastic read for children as well as adults.
