I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I mean, it's about Illyria, so it's horrifying, but lovely as well.
That being said, one half star off because the art was a little hit and miss. Just a little miss, and a lot of hit, but the variation drove me a little crazy.
One half star off because this was my nightmare on page. Literally.
THAT'S THE SPIDER FROM MY NIGHTMARES, WTF, I CAN'T ESCAPE IT. EVER.
But apparently this guy is a sweetheart. Um, okay, I guess he's not the one terrifying me forever then.
Oh, also, Spike calls Illyria darling. Why does he call people darling now?
But look at this:
That's hands down my favorite illustration of Illyria: all power and shameless about wielding it. That's her. There's just something in this pose that gets to the core of her character that I can't help but love this image.
It's really a solo outting where she goes on a quest to get answers about where she belongs. And does she, hoo boy does she. I like the person she becomes, and how comfortable she becomes with her place in the world. I liked that this was a little more lighthearted, and hopeful, settled some things for Illyria, and also felt very in character.
Love!
