I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Part of me is fascinated, but I spent the beginning and end bored. So I guess I liked some parts in the middle. Modern day mythology usually is totally my jam, too. This just happened to have a main character who wants to die despite his immortality, which is another theme I find intriguing, especially when broken down into its simplest format: we all want what we can't have.
I think it's mostly the main character I had a problem with, because he went around trying to piece everything together, trying to help people, and it seemed at odds with the 'wanting to die' part. Not only that, wanting to die is brought up, and him being able to die is promised as a reason to help someone he despises, but it felt kinda dropped in there rather than really explored, so I just kinda shrugged and moved on when it was mentioned now and then.
I did like the way the Old Ones were used, so there's that. But overall, I don't think I'm going to continue with this series.
