Liked how the blindness was portrayed, didn't like the story or characters

Love Isn't Blind: A Sweet and Special Romances Collection - Sandra Ross

The boss, and the blind character, wasn't offensive, nor did I find any of the usual reasons to dislike him that I've seen in romance: he wasn't too bossy, sexist, or alpha, or anything like that.    He was simply a bit bland, and the somewhat stilted dialogue didn't help his case.

He actually was nice.   A little bit of a recluse, but he was worried about taking advantage of his position as employer, and wouldn't continue until Ashley insisted this was what she wanted.

He couldn't move around without a cane, or guide, outside his house.   Inside was a different matter, and this made sense.   Not only did he live there, so he was intimately familiar with everything about the house, he was a recluse and an author.   He spent almost all his time there.   In addition, he was a famous, and well paid author, with a housekeeper who made sure that everything was kept in place.   It felt natural that he didn't need the cane inside his house, and used it anytime he went outside.

Ashley kept trying to impress boss-man, then remembered he couldn't see.   This felt realistic, too.  She fell back on what she's used then, then, oops!  It's like nodding to blind people, and realizing they can't see anything, not even you gesturing to them.  It's just the way you might answer anyone else, so you can do it out of habit.   Her breaking her habits was interesting, especially when she turned up for a meeting wearing what she thought was just enough perfume.   Boss - I really don't care enough to look up his name - explained that his house was scent free due to his other senses, including smell, compensating for his loss of sight.   (He was in an accident, so he used to be sighted.   I just explain as I've found there are differences in the writing depending on if a character was born blind or not.)  Even though he's amiable about it, and tells her Helene, the housekeeper, should have explained this earlier, she's mortified as she goes to wash off the perfume.   She'd figured it would be her sexy-moment instead of her outfit, but hadn't really thought it through.

On the other hand, both he explains, she listens, and I'm glad he stuck up for himself and mentioned it instead of just pretending to ignore that fact.   I found the whole story to be rather bland, and stilted.   I wanted to like this, too, guys.   Brava to the author for getting inside a blind person's head, or at the very least doing a better job than usual.   It was a relief.   I couldn't really give it a higher star rating, though, not with the other issues I had.

If it was just rated on how well she tried to get inside a blind person's head, it'd be much higher.   (And of course, I don't think I need to say this, but this was from my point of view.   Being sighted, I may be overlooking obvious things that a blind reader would see, which is why I added the caveat that at least this wasn't, say, Clarity or Blind.)
