I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
The owner knew who I was because the sci-fi nook is right next to the door, but in a hidden corner. He heard someone come in then disappear and knew it was me because he has so few customers.
I ended up laughing and telling him I was there to see if he had anything new or that I'd missed. Nothing new, he said. Which is okay. I was thinking more YA/teen because of Mrs. Frisby and I told him so, and in fact that I had enjoyed that book so much and so unexpectedly, that I wanted to check out his YA section.
I ended up with five more books all from the YA section, mostly about animals. I'm planning on dropping in - not necessarily spending money, but dropping in - on Fridays.
