I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Holy crap, that got suddenly and surprisingly brutal. Not because I wouldn't have expected it of either two of these characters, but because this book has skirted around the violence as of yet.
Brilliantly done. While the violence gets right down to the point, it's not quite as brutal as the mind games, power plays, and emotional violence rife throughout this novel. (And yes, there are some characters who play the games only enough to keep themselves safe, or so they think, and I like those characters. They may not be completely innocent, but they do have a sense of innocence about them, they're gentle, they're caring, and I care very much for them. Unfortunately, they don't play the power game very well, so they get trod upon time and time again.)
And yeah, that scene...

All the feels, guys.
