Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

So, not a huge fan of this series...

Claw, Blade and Fang - Derek Fridolfs, Jonathan Marks, Ray Fawkes, Charles Soule, Juan Doe, Peter Nguyen, Jason Masters, Kris Anka

I kinda want to know what happens, so I'll continue reading, but this is not one of my favorite series.   Which is odd: I like everything by this writer.  I think part of is the casual cruelty in this particular volume, part of it is that it's more convoluted than what he usually writes, and part of it is that the whole 'Logan after Logan died' thing seems like milking a cash cow after you've killed it.

I'm also not sure where he's going, with any of the storylines, which is just frustrating.

Then again, I like some of the characters - Fantomelle and Culpepper in particular - and I want to see what happens to them.

The casual cruelty I mentioned before?   Everything that Fang, one of Logan's friend, dumped on Sabertooth was just very mean-spirited, and seeing as he was doing this as a way to honor Logan just rubbed me the wrong way.   I'm not saying that Sabertooth didn't do horrible things, or that he should get away with the things he did.   But it's this weird thing where he can remember, but his personalty was inverted so he doesn't want to kill or hurt people and he wants to help them now.   So is he the same person if this was forced on him and he can't undo it?

In my opinion, he is not the same person.   And I don't even think saying, 'look, you did this horrible, horrible shit and I can't get over it, and I can't just forget it,' is unreasonable. However, what Fang did was rub his face in the fact that will never be Logan is just... ugh.   It made me dislike Fang, because even if he hated Sabertooth?   He did that, and he pulled another stunt, to prove to Sabertooth that he wasn't Logan, and he'd never be as good as Logan.

His main motivation was to cause as much emotional pain as possible.   He took a lot of pleasure in it, in a way that made me feel weird and funny, like I was looking in at all the faults that Sabertooth was trying to hide, and it felt invasive?

I normally don't mind sadistic characters.   There was just something about this that made my hackles rise, and I find myself less interested in finishing this series than I am in finishing Captain Marvel right now.
