I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
See, Captain America is trying to find Bucky - but to do that, he has to kill the Red King, which is what Doom wants him to do. Since Cap believes Doom is evil, and since cap wants to serve justice, well...
That being said, Doc Green calls this into question, as he does the nature of man and how Steve would react to gamma radiation, and the relationship between Cap and Devil. Devil is just a beast, serving his own instincts, and not a friend as Cap believes. Or so Doc claims.
So far, Cap has my vote on this. He calls Devil his 'warbound.' It's pretty much what it sounds like. They are bound. Through war. It also has a deeper meaning, and responsibilities, such as never leaving your war bound behind. Since Cap also seems warbound to Bucky, this has the possibility of getting quite interesting. Then again, this assumes that Devil is more than a mindless beast, and that hasn't been absolutely proven. Then again, he shows unfailing loyalty to Cap, and while he hasn't shown more than basic animal instinct - yet - he has shown a little more thought in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. So I'm hoping he's more that kind of Devil, who is capable of thought, and is playing dumb so that people underestimate him right now.
Also, this brings up another intriguing question. Are you warbound to someone by association? That is, if Cap is warbound to Bucky and Devil, does that make Devil and Bucky warbound by association? Or not?
It kinda does, I think. If Bucky is lost, and is warbound to Cap, Cap is bound to follow him. If Devil is warbound to Cap, he's bound to follow Cap, following Bucky. It's kinda twisty, bizarre logic, because if Cap is injured/unconscious and unable to get to Bucky, what are Devil's responsibilities toward Bucky?
I doubt this will be covered in this mini-series, but I like thinking about it anyway. And this perhaps incidental/unintentional/tangential thread is one of the things I like most about this mini-series, even if I wasn't mean to think about it in the first place.
