I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I tried this for fifty cents - one dollar plus the half off at Newbury comics - because everything I'd heard about Lobo indicated I might like this title. Add that to one of my favorite authors - Cullen Bunn - who wrote the new Magneto title that ended with Battleworld and the zombie Deadpool stories I liked so much and I figured I had to love this, right?
Not really. The character just feels flat to me. He just doesn't seem very... anything at all. And the whole 'gruff guy who does the right thing in the end' has been done better, although he does some wrong, too.
Seeing as he's a gun for hire, it's hard not to compare him to Deadpool or Deathstroke, and I like the former much more than the latter. And Lobo is more Deathstroke than Deadpool, much, much more, so it's hard getting into this series.
