Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Comic book covers

Art of Army of Darkness HC - Various

And yet, what lovely covers these are!  As deliciously gory and cheeky as you'd expect an Army of Darkness art book to be, this one also showcases a ton of talent.   Ben Templesmith and Jae Lee were  my favorites, although Dynamite didn't manage to snag much work from Lee.

It also ranged from cartoony to realistic art.   It was a nice range, all showcasing the best things about the original movies, although some of these covers were funnier than others.

I didn't knock down half a star for that, though.   It's somewhat depressing to look through books like these and get so many male artists, with few, if any, female artists being represented.   (I couldn't tell from some of the names, to be honest, and Googling didn't seem worth the time: even if there were a couple female artists, it's predominately men.)

Luckily this is slowly changing as there are more and more women working in the comic book industry.   Still, I can't help but read all the names of the artists here and cringe a little.  I love comics, but if they get a rap for being misogynistic, a book like this highlights how much of a men's club the comic book industry is.

Still, this would make a lovely addition to someone's collection if they enjoy these movies.
