I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Jason Aaron very rarely lets me down. I've yet to make it through his Thor series, but his work on Wolverine and AvX was amazing. I think he's my favorite Wolverine writer, hands down.
I was slightly nervous about this series, but I was also just telling Troy I'd heard great things about it all: this, the Leia series, Vader, and they have a Lando series out as well. Not just one particular, title, either. All of them seem to be doing it for the fans.
Between Aaron and the positive things I'd heard, i was hoping this would hit the spot. It did. The characters are in character, and this takes place right after Luke made the Death Star go boom. So we know when, and the timing of this all makes sense. The plot makes sense given the time.
But it's mostly the characters. We've seen the rebels fight the Empire, and while I liked the small twists in this, it wasn't anything that felt super original. Seeing Aaron nail all the characters with the writing, though? That was a thing of beauty.
And he scored Cassady as an illustrator! The artwork alone is worth the admission price. Sadly, I only have the next issue up on Marvel Unlimited so far.
