I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
"...making Deadpool from Deadpool for Deadpool's sake - so that from the beginning to the very end, all there is, and all there every shall be, is Deadpool."
This book is just perfect. Deadpool breaks the fourth wall constantly, and in the end, the gender identity/confusion is dealt with. Basically, everything that makes Deadpool fun? Here.
Everything that makes Deadpool an interesting character, even if it's not so much fun? Here. There were brief explorations of his childhood and psychosis, and his mental illness, that were great because they gave this book a little something more: it wasn't just one giant joke. The brief moments of soberness countered the funny, and balanced it quite nicely. Much in the same way that the last run, the one that just finished, found a nice balance: a lot of what you'd except from Deadpool, but also a lot of meaningful and serious explorations of Wade Wilson's life.
Except Elie. They did have Blind Al, however, and ugh. I hate Blind Al. So much. But she wasn't in much of this. And overall, it was just the kind of so-very-wrong hilarity that I'd come to except from Wade.
I just... I can't even tell you how much fun this book is. Seriously, if you're a Deadpool fan, or think he sounds like fun, but don't want to read graphic novels? Pick up this book.
