I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Daken is a little shit. He always has been, and I suspect he always will be, and I hate him. However, he is incredibly smart, twisted, and knows how to manipulate people. He even can control them to a certain degree, via pheromones and scents, talking them into whatever he wants them to do. And while he uses this for sex sometimes, he mostly uses this - and come to think of it sex - as a power play, making sure that all his plans come together.
The political intrigue amongst the Dark Avengers - Norman Osborne's Avengers, using villains to take over the heroes roles - wasn't enough to make this a good book, though. It fell flat to be honest. (Bullseye takes over for Hawkeye, Daken for Wolverine obviously, and Venom for Spider-Man. Continue with other villains and heroes.)
It also used backstories from a couple Wolverine issues that had nothing to do with Daken. Well, almost nothing. It did have a little bit of parallels, making it clear that Daken was like this character, but that's about it. I finished that short two-part story, finished the Daken issues, and went, 'but why were the Wolverine backstories included?'
Add to this the fact that the art is awful in the Dark Wolverine stories, and meh. I'm gonna continue and see if it gets any better. Daken is one of the only bisexual characters I know of in the Marvel Universe, so that was my hook.
