Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

So much eroticizing!

Cable and Deadpool, Vol. 4: Bosom Buddies - Fabian Nicieza, Patrick Zircher

All my screencaps are about Nathan/Deadpool or Spideypool because there is so much eroticizing in this issue.   And I'm a little obsessed with things I don't understand, like the whole sex thing, so yes, I focus on that.   Plus, my emotional obsession with Deadpool, as I've explained before, needs me to pair him up with someone.

I'm also realizing just how uncomfortable he is in his own skin.   He's called his mask his face before, and in fact, has refused to answer to Deadpool on the phone without his mask on.   He drops the phone, making the dude on the other end wait, while he goes to grab his mask.   He's uncomfortable with the way he looks, and I think that's why he constantly seeking someone who'll get down and dirty with him - or at least part of the reason.   He's also really, really uncomfortable with his sexuality: whenever it comes to dudes, he'll crack jokes about hooking up with them, but he'll skirt away, and try to prove he's 'all man' with the women when he's called out on it.   (With a couple exceptions, one of which I'll explain later in this review.)

Except that it's not just his appearance that's a potential turn-off.   He won't shut up, he's blunt, he's obnoxious, and he's sometimes written as schizophrenic.   He's a killer for hire. There's so much that could potentially make someone say 'no.'   (Although he doesn't seem to have to much trouble finding people who say yes.   A couple have been willing to go to really extreme lengths to keep him, too.)  And if this seems odd coming from me, I'm a realist.   Yes, I am obsessed with the character, and yes I would totally jump him if he was all metal, but I'd also be like, 'so many things wrong with this.'

So it's kind of sad when he really, really tries, and the reaction is less than welcome.  It adds a little depth to his character when you realize that this is more about just sex - although it's a lot about sex.   I think it's also about his own insecurities, and while he'd never say so out loud, it's nice to see the cracks in his armor.   He's one of Marvel's most inhuman characters in that he didn't seem very relatable, and the more I read, the more I see that's only true on the surface.   I'm finding myself more and more intrigued by him.

Yes, I'm in the mood to write a more analytical review, so I hope no one is bored by this one.

When one of the B.A.D. Girls - yes, I know, I know - makes Deadpool see his deepest, darkest desire, he sees this:

When he starts mumbling about it out loud, he assures the women he's all man by dropping trou.   He's wearing bright yellow women's panties, and they're all like, this proves the opposite, right?  (He argues it proves that he's even more of a man, I'm assuming because he's comfortable wearing them.   Which is kinda ironic given how comfortable he is with his transvestism, but not with his pansexuality.)

So he promises to take a minute to show them - well, not a minute for all three.   It just goes worse and worse for him.   Except that he normally is quite good at, well, talking in general.   So I have to wonder if his own conflict about his sexuality sort of got him tongue-tied here.

Later, this happens.

To which someone responds this way:

This is one situation where Wade doesn't argue that he's all man, and instead accepts that he's being told that he's romancing a man.   I think the reason he accepts this is twofold: he's not the only one being 'accused' - and I think it is an accusation, and threat to his manhood most times, at least to him - and Cable answers first, and doesn't make a big deal of it.   The 'accusation' is normalized, and it would seem more odd at this point to make a big deal of it, so he doesn't.   Normally he does, especially with a woman in the same room.

As for the accusation aspect, that ties into him being uncomfortable in his own skin, and most likely societal norms.   The norm is heterosexuality, so that's his fallback.   He's so different, I see this as one of his ways to fit in, even though he really doesn't.

Y'know, the sexual objectification would bother me for a lot of reasons, but Deadpool gets away with it.   And it's not because I simply like his character.   It's because I believe he's mentally ill, and horrible shit was done to him that makes him so uncomfortable in his skin.  But most importantly, he may, say, sniff a woman when she's sleeping, or stalk Siryn and watch her when she sleeps - but only from outside her window.   He's never actually forced himself on a woman, no matter how many sexist things he says.   (And the fact that he continually needs to prove his manhood seems to be tied to the other issues, and is stressful for him, especially when it's not proven to him and the womens.  I actually feel quite bad for him, and I think it's the whole 'Weapon X broke him' thing.  I seem to be a sucker for characters who are broken by experimentation of this sort.)

But the real winner is that he's not a rapist, and he's not actually forceful.   Hell, he doesn't even get angry when women turn him down.   Sad maybe, but not angry.

So when he does something like this:

I find it adorable that he dressed up in a tux and tidied up for her. Although I did immediately notice mask, but no gloves.   Even when he's showing himself, his mask seems to be his fallback as his real face.   So many issues.

(I also have this unhealthy interest in fixing broken characters.  It would be dangerous if I applied it to real life.)

Oh, right, the last issue had more Spideypool.

I feel like this properly expresses how Deadpool feels.

And I'm gonna pretend that those sticky situations aren't only because of the webbing.  Although, heh, that could easily come into play...

Yes, please, more adorableness between the two.

And a final shot of Cable being protective of Deadpool.

I like how he thinks about Deadpool before anyone else.   It just endears me more to Cable.   Yay Cable!
