Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Conflicted

The Ultimates 3: Who Killed the Scarlet Witch? - Christian Lichtner, Joe Madureira, Jeph Loeb

For those new to my blog, I signed up for Marvel Unlimited Plus, got a cool limited edition box, free access to the Marvel Unlimited program - so many free comics! - and some other stuff including 15% off digital comics.

I'm being a glutton about the whole reading comics for free for a year.

Anyway, I'm conflicted about this.   Wanda flirts with Ultron which is kinda hot, and I actually liked her for, like, a second.   Also, Wanda dies.   Amusing given what she's done to Vision in the 616-Verse.    Also, Ultron's origin story is different, makes sense particularly in this multiverse, and made me kinda gleeful because I like where this is going.   (Even if it does end in the stupidest plot line that even made Marvel go, boy, we really messed up here!   I'm looking at you, Ultimatum.   Marvel admitted that this event killed off interest in the Ultimate universe that they had to reboot everything after a ten year solid run.)

However, why is the go-to plan always 'kill robots'?   Ugh.

Still, the plot moves quickly, there are plot twists that I didn't see coming, that make sense, and moved the plot along, and the art is amazing: clean, action-packed, with lush colors.   Just gorgeous!   And as I mentioned in a previous update, this doesn't shy away from tough or even taboo themes: Thor is dating a woman who's practically jailbait which raises eyebrows, Wanda and Pietro are pretty much in a brother-sister/romantic relationship that gets more disturbing since Pietro is basically using her to replace a mother's love.   And if this had been done just for shock, well...

But Thor and Valkyrie  are really in love.   It does seem to have a reason, although the whys are only hinted at in this volume.   Wanda and Pietro are in love, and it's not only a major plot point in this volume, it makes sense given their traumatic childhood.   They've only ever relied on themselves, to the point where it's grown into love because they can only trust each other as much as they do.

The Savage Land plot also deals with genocide, and an imperialist monarch, all tying into the main plot - who killed the Scarlet Witch - and I would have gladly read another issue to flesh out Shanna and Ka-Zar's role in this storyline.

Overall, worth it, but hate, hate, hate the hate on robots :(
