Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Liked volume two better

The Punisher Volume 2: Border Crossing - Mar a Del Carmen Carnero Moya, Mitch Gerads, Kevin Maurer, Nathan Edmondson, Phil Noto

First of all, I was worried about the art, but I think I liked the art in this, if anything, better than the first volume.   This covers Punisher issues 7-8, Black Widow issue 9, and then fishiness up with Punisher 9-12.   Both issues nine covered a lot of the same material - the same storyline - but one is more from Natasha's point of view, while the other is more from Fank's point of view.   Each issue added enough insight into the situation that I didn't mind retreading the same story.   I also preferred the art in the Black Widow series, so I may jump into that next.

As for this, I liked it more because it reminded me what a brilliant tactician Frank is.  I think the perception - not necessarily from fans, but maybe more from villains in the Marvel universe - is that Frank uses a lot of bullets and brute strength and instincts from his training.   Then he shows that he understands people and can plan out his movements when he causes a prison break with a spilled drink.   He knows exactly what will happen, plans for it, and takes control of the situation.  He's smart, and I don't think he could have gotten by with guns, strength and luck for so long if he weren't that smart.   It's easy for me to forget, so this was a pretty brutal reminder.

It was also nice to see Frank acknowledge that he was getting old, and that it was weighing down on him.   I think that's something else that's easy to overlook, and he doesn't.   It's not only weighing on it's shoulders, it is flat out wearing him down.   He considers giving up on everything he does, out loud, to a friend and she verbally bitchslaps him back into shape.   There's coyote, another friend, and the realization that LA - the city he's chosen to live in - is in way worse shape, and possibly for way worse reasons that he thought.

I'd continue, but this is the end of the ride for Marvel Unlimted right now.   I may delve into some of the older Punisher series, although I think it's the current Black Widow for me right now.
