I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
First of all, the style back in the 60s was to have bloated comics. Lots and lots of words, some of which I find unnecessary. This also falls into a lot of dated traps, like some racism and misogyny. Not that it's an excuse, but it's hard to find comics from this era that weren't chock full of some racism and misogyny.
Nor do I think Marvel was like yay racism and misogyny! But a black dude as Man-Ape or whatever? Jan and Sue Storm going on about dresses? It's just there. To their credit, they had a black hero as an Avenger and had a couple issues dedicated to how awful the race wars were. I think they were trying. I think intent means something, even if it's not magical nor does it erase problematic issues. But I do think it counts for something.
I usually don't like the older Marvel comics. I just don't. Between the bloat, and the art, which is normally technically good but not quite as sleek as the newer art...
But Vision! I'm on a Vision kick and I absolutely loved him right from the start.
Also, I'm sorry. My review for Ultron Initiative came through as the review for this. I made a mistake, but this is my review for this and I've changed the other to be for the proper book.
