I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I hate to say it, but this is not close to the best Spider-Man story ever. Overly dramatic, not well edited, and just without as much flair or heart as some of the later stories.
I'll keep reading the older issues that I got for free on Comixology - but I won't be investing in this era's Spider-Man.
This is an example. I keep giggling at this. It's like he's a pre-teen girl sobbing because the world is so, so unfair because some boy doesn't like her and blowing that out of proportion. That's all I can think.
Then again, this is the start of a character who's become an icon. It's not the most horrible thing I've ever read, and it's interesting to see how Peter Parker/Palmer got his start.
