Short guide to Comixology...

First of all, if you sync your marvel.com and comixology.com accounts, it goes both ways: anything you buy from Marvel on Comixology will show up in your Marvel account, and anything you buy at all on Marvel will show up in your Comixology account.  I highly suggest doing this.   I like having everything in one place, so this is the way.   Why get a Marvel account?   If you buy Marvel hardcover graphic novels, or any comic, that says it has a free digital comic, you can redeem it at a site with a Marvel account.   The best part?  Once you redeem that, it shows up in your Comixology account.

Second of all, Comixology is really intuitive, especially as far as the reader goes.   You can go to your books, look them up by most recent - although it'll only show a certain number of issues/volumes, then you have to go to my series, which is organized alphabetically by series.  You can go to the series itself and it'll tell you which issues you've read, and then there's a button saying 'read comic' underneath. (It's also color coded; blue for what you haven't bought, and the text and color change when you purchase.   It's green when you've purchased something.)  Hit that, and you're in the reader.   The exit reader button is in the bar beneath, but it's hidden unless you hover the mouse over the bottom of the comic page.   All your options - how to read, full page, etc - are on that bar.   But really, it's just using the arrow buttons or clicking on the arrows on your page.   It's swipes for phones/tablets, but I always read on my MacBook Air!

Remember that each panel/page is scanned separately; some are more pixelated than others.   Most of them are anywhere from very good to it's like reading a paper comic.   I also suggest looking to see what's inside to check out smaller versions of the pages.   If they don't look nice, or if I find I'm not actually interested in the comic, I don't buy it.   Again, like 99% of the comics are fantastic.

Use the guided view!   If the page stands on it's own and you need to see the full page to get the full impact, they'll show you.   But it will also narrow in on dialogue/narrative text, which makes it much, much easier to use. The way to get into guided view is to have the mouse hover over the bottom of the page when you've opened the reader, and it gives you multiple options: seeing one or two pages at a time, using the guided view, etc, etc.   Despite having my first real issue with the guided view - skipping panels on multiple pages, sometimes a couple pages in a row - I haven't had this issue before, or since really.   It's doesn't happen very often.  Comixology also remembers your preference.  If you go into guided view, then open up another comic, it'll also use guided view.   It's so nice not to have to set that each and every time!

If you have a problem, contact Comixology.  I did.   They're working on fixing the Atomic Robo comic.   I'm still gun shy about ordering more Atomic Robo in digital format, but when it's fixed, I may do it just to see if another volume has as many problems.  They were super nice, and super quick.

That white line I complained of in my e-mail went away.  I assumed it was the scan because there were so many other problems, but I just got the white line that went through the image again on another comic.  I think it's how the panels load now; the first time, I did everything except exit the reader.   When I loaded Atomic Robo again, it was gone.   It happened in Nova Volume Four, and I moved back a panel, then to the panel, then gone.   So it wasn't a one time thing, but it may be how the guided view works, and it may be how your browser loads it, and it may have to do with how good the internet connection is.   But it appears to be a loading the page/panel issue, and not a scanning issue.   Don't panic, and if worst comes to worst exit the reader then jump back in.   (The site asks you if you want to start over or start on the page you left off.   If you choose the latter option, it will take you to the beginning of the page, not the panel you were on.   Don't worry about it, it's not a glitch, it's just how it works.   It remembers page numbers, not panels as they don't appear to be numbered.   Since there are so few panels per page, it'll be a cinch getting to exactly where you were.)

There's a sales button up top, as well as a smaller collection of free comics.   Hit the first and it'll show you all the current sales.   The second will show you a curated selection of free comics.  Sometimes bundles are great options, too, although they can be pricey.   (You still save, but you just get a crazy amount of comics for the money!)   Some comics drop price by a half a month out, so look at the back issue prices.   If you need it now, click it, if not... well, it'll go down.

Also, they now have a one-click option which is spiffy.   But they call it buy-it-now.   You can still use the drop down button nearby and put it in your cart.   I really like the one-click option, though, although you have to turn that on.

Oh, also, have two windows open with different comics/volumes open.  Occasionally the site/loading gets glitchy.  I'm pretty sure it's sketchy net connections that make it glitchy; the only times I've had major trouble reading, like to the point where I gave up, it was all times that I didn't have access to a good network, or the good network was glitchy itself.

Most of all, have fun reading.
