I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
For two days. -_-
What to say about the Avengers AI wrap up? I wanted to love it. I really, really did, but it just makes me not want to buy the first volume. Why? The charm has worn off for one thing. Doombot? Funny in the small doses of volume one? Yes. Funny in the second? Nope. It feels like the whole 'Doombot rejects all hope/apologies/everything good on earth' is being dragged out. Then you have the weird scene where he's his blunt, power hungry self, and somehow also calms down human-Lady-Cthulhu. It makes him seem more well rounded - only to resort to his regular line of rejecting all apologies when someone points out he's got more to him. Why build him up only to tear down the character again?
Then the whole plot feels like it's being tightly controlled, but with the characters spiraling out of control, it seems like the plot does to at the end. It doesn't help that it's all been based on possibilities, scientific possibilities, and then they get a deus ex machine at the end. What now? And they actually call it out for getting help from the other side.
Sighs. Just sighs.
Yeah, it all fell apart before then, though, as I had to drag myself through the library copy. I put it off so long I was standing at the library return desk, going, sorry, sorry, this is due and I kinda wanna finish it but not. And getting odd looks from the librarian. I rushed through the ending.
Yay robots, boo this? I dunno.
Kinda what I wanna tell the book, because I expected something sexy and it turned out to be blah. Which is disappointing because, y'know, first so good.
Why three stars? Vision, and Doombot were kinda sexy, even if I wanted Doombot not to be such an oilrag sometimes.
