Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Never have I been more tempted to inflate a review than I have for this book

Bad Boy Good Man - Abigail Barnette, Jenny Trout

But a brutally honest review is what you'll get.   Given what this author has already been put through, I'm not going to pull quotes from this book, because I will curl up into a ball and cry.   Given that, I'm not sorry that I paid for this book, nor that I read it.   But I really wanted to inflate the review and give her three or four stars, just because I absolutely hate how another author punched down on her.

I didn't enjoy it, though.   It was quite heavy on the sex, so it had that against it for immediately.   (Has anyone else read this?   Would you classify it as hot?   My sense of what's hot is so skewed nowadays, so I can't tell -_-)   I can see some people easily finding it scorching, so I guess there's that.   I won't say what it was; I didn't find it erotic, but I don't find any sex involving two human partners sexy, so there's that.   It was probably hot, but again, help?   Seriously, guys, I'd love someone to weigh in here.

But this was not ready to be published in my opinion.   There were enough typos that I was distracted, and at one point her friend tells her that she falls for men too fast.   Later, when thinking about it, she expands it to 'too fast, too... something or other,' and I had to go back and find a part that I hadn't highlighted to make sure this was true.

It would have gotten at least an extra star if it had gone through another edit.  I know an editor was mentioned as having worked on this anthology, but if this is true, I'm mad at the author for the editor's shoddy work.

It's a shame.  I really, really liked the conversation between the female characters, but found myself rolling my eyes a bit at the conversation between the male and female lead. And then the revelation conversation at the end?  The why and how they can finally get together seemed really contrived, so much so that I ended up rolling my eyes.   But again, I don't read this genre that often.  And I don't find human interaction - social, just talking, flirting - that exciting, sexually or otherwise.

I'm interested in reading other reviews of this book.  I feel so completely biased, but I probably am.   Everyone is, really.

Oh, right, and given how fun the female best friends were, and how fun they were when talking to the female lead, I'd like to read more by Trout - although I'll probably stay away from her heavily erotic work, which I believe is the work published under the Abigail Barnette name.
