Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Blam! You're murdered!

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2: Angela - Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli, Francesco Francavilla, Olivier Coipel, Valerio Schiti, Kevin Maguire

This may be my favorite catch phrase.    Rocket is adorable and oh-so-endearing in his brutal honesty.    Part of the reason is that he's most honest about himself.   When he berates Gamora for attacking Angela, and she points out that he told her to, his response is that she shouldn't do everything he says 'cos he's clearly wrong-headed.   There's a  lot of inter-group nitpicking and fighting, and while, yes, it creates more tension it's also mostly about the characters.   Every time Rocket talks down to someone - including Tony Stark in a guest appearance - or Gamora argues with Star Lord, it's all about revealing more about the characters and their relationships with each other or the world around them.

Bendis is also excellent creating a super-tense situations, and then breaking them at the perfect moment with laugh out loud humor that, once again, tells you more about the characters, their world, their place in the world or their relationships to each other.   In fact, Bendis is simply a superior writer.   He nails almost everything, almost every time, and this is no exception.   I'm going to look into getting GotG, probably from either Marvel or Comixology, because I ordered this from the library almost a year ago and it just came in, and I didn't realize how excellent this series was.  I'll probably want to reread them, multiple times.

Love, love, love love, love.
