I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
It's people with powers, although the general world seems to be unaware of them. Like mutants before they all came out in the Marvel world.
This, however, focuses on adults, so the mutant as metaphor for being a teenager aspect isn't there. It does, however, add an edge in my opinion: a lot of the shit Weaver, the main character, gets into? He most likely wouldn't have been able to pull it off as a teenager.
He needs the experience, he needs to come off as an adult, to get himself in those situations.
There was also a WTF moment at the end that has me eager to know more. A fun, fast read.
