Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Fantastic - other than a couple issues.

The Last Zombie: Zomnibus TP - Brian Keene

I was kind of torn.   The Humble Bundle made the text so small it was hard to read.   I kind powered through the last third just so I wouldn't have to read text that small anymore.   There were some editing errors, including a character's name changing, and some really awkward sentence structure.

Overall, though, this was pretty fantastic.   It's post-zombie - the zombies have come, destroyed, and died out.   Except that when one FEMA bunker can't talk to another, soldiers and doctors set out on a mission to see what's happened.   Dr. Ian Scott goes because his fiancee is in the bunker, the one who can no longer communicate with his.   When he falls into a pit of lepers, he soon realizes he has contracted the zombie virus.

HIs mission - to see Jennifer once more - has now turned into his sole reason for living.   He simply wants to see her, to make sure she's still alive, and to say goodbye to her.   He lies to hide his condition.

Not only was the art gorgeous, but the story was moving.   As they move across the country, the small group of men and women encounter other survivors, do their best to help them, and create bonds and relationships that we see through to the end of this monster of an omnibus.   It's surprisingly touching, speaking to the human condition and how we survive when it seems that going on is simply impossible.

And the art is far superior to the writing: haunting, delicate, and just absolutely beautiful.   The art was the highlight, and the real reason to read this, and to continue on to the end.
