I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
This is the complete Drift, which starts off with his background, giving you a hint of Drift's background: he was a Decepticon defector, who eventually joins the Autobots and ends up as Rodimus Prime's second-in-command on the Lost Light.
I'm not sure why, but when the Drift mini-series came out, I went, 'eh'. I didn't think I'd be crazy about it, and I skipped it. I ended up purchasing this on the cheap and used for my birthday this year, however, as I'm finding Drift super-sexy in More Than Meets the Eye.
Like super-super sexy. So I forgot about buying the book until it came. It's hardcover, and in pretty bad condition on the outside - the top corners are torn up - but it was as advertised. Inside? Inside is pristine, more so than I expected, and this was another unexpected thrill. Which has nothing to do with the contents of the book.
The Spotlight didn't do it so much for me. It was clear enough that Drift used to be a Decepticon and defected, but gave no real motivation for why, or why he joined up The Wreckers, so it was just frustrating in the end. The writer, in my opinion, was hobbled by the page count, because he's the same writer for the Drift mini-series, which was much smoother in my opinion. (The art is also superior in the mini-series in my opinion, while the coloring is much more subtle and effective in the Spotlight.)
Seeing how and why Drift changes, having him go back even further and delve into how he joined the Decepticons? Brilliant. There's just more there - more character development, more understanding of him as a character and the choices he makes, and there's a flow to the issues that wasn't there in the Spotlight. Highly recommended for Transformers fans.
I'm not even going into why this is Drift for my character challenge. It should be self-explanatory.
