I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
For such a short story, there was one glaring error:
She hopped up to him and said '' hello, my name is Oren.
Jones, Rhys L (2014-01-20). Sketch the Robot (Kindle Location 28). Rhys L Jones. Kindle Edition.
There should be a comma after said.
See how bright the illustration on the cover is? That's how it is throughout the whole book. I was hoping it would be so... neon. I feel like my head hurts just looking at the cover, but... robot!
And I've had pretty good luck with robot stories, even the free ones. This one, however, had stilted dialogue, a deus ex machina - Oren gives him one energy square, and when he puts that in his ship wrong, she gives him another despite him saying it's only a start to fixing his ship. I assume the bird has an endless supply of pretty energy squares that she'll give him until it's fixed.
The main problem? I don't know. This story ends with him thinking, 'great, new friend, my spaceship has started to be repaired.' That's, uh, that's not an ending. What the fuck, book?
