Review - Sparks Travels to Earth

Sparks - Travels to Earth - Matt McGuire

This book was decent - not great, not as adorable as some of the kids robots books I've purchased, but okay.   The illustrations were adorable and the premise was cute - small robots plan to invade Earth, but give up when they realize how big humans are in comparison.

You just can't think too much.   Like, why would the robots plan a full scale invasion with just four bots, and just assume that we're the same size?   Or how about how they know nothing about us, to the point where they question whether or not a kid is a kid, but they know about the game 'Go Fish'.   Or the fact that they just accept that the child is a child based on clothing; since they don't wear clothing, how are they able to deduce what a child would wear?   On a planet alien to them, with people whose customs are alien to them?

I considered giving the book two stars for the inconsistencies, but I split the last star.   It's still cute, it still entertained me, although I think these issues could be smoothed out.   A child may not question them, as well, and this is aimed at children.

It's also super short.   And semicolons are misused, which is one of the reasons that I'm giving it two and half stars instead of anything higher.   I needed a break from Unteachable, so this was just the thing.
