Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Suicide Squad (1987-) #63 - John Ostrander, Kim Yale, Geof Isherwood

I was looking for the issue where Ducard sends back Deadshot's costume - and I found it. I also spoiled myself quite a bit searching for this issue, before asking Tigus for help.   I just wanted to see this scene in particular, and with the 60% off DC sale, this was too good an opportunity to pass up.

I found myself pleasantly surprised: this feels like it came directly from the previous issues.   The new characters - all Israeli - who are introduced seem to be familiar with the characters.   I'm kinda loving the Jewy vibe here, though.   Just really nice.   In addition, the bits that didn't include Deadshot tended to center around Dybbuk and Mindboggler, both digital entities. Dybbuk is AI, whereas Mindboggler is a girl named Leah Wasserman.   Still, she died, and was turned into Ifrit, a digital-based assassin.   Something is going on with her, and Dybbuk is sent to help her.

I gave a couple issues that I wasn't crazy about five stars, because I felt they were solidly written.  On a purely feels level, though, this was a far superior read to me: I was interested in everything, whereas I wasn't as interested in Waller's storyline in The Dragon's Hoard.

There's also Ramban, who is pretty much an Israeli Dr. Strange.   Maybe not.   He doesn't have the magical ability that Strange does, and he never became a huge part of the DC universe.   I think he was pretty much a way to poke fun on Strange, which was done gently, and I thought with great respect.   (I'm also reminded of an article I read where someone inside the comic book industry pointed out that a lot of fandom feuds are just that: fandom feuds.   That is, Marvel vs. DC might be a fandom thing, and of course, Marvel and DC are competitors.   I don't think they feel venomously towards each other though.   Most comic book writers and artists work for, or have worked for, both companies at one point or another, and they treat each other with a fair amount of respect even when they do poke fun at the other.)

Funny, touching, and I loved what happened to Mindboggler and Dybbuk in the end!   And when Ramban comments on that?   Love him.   So much.
